Sock Madness Design Guide

This competition will require 7 sock patterns which will get progressively more challenging.

At the end of the competition, the designers will be encouraged to distribute the patterns for free or fee as they choose.

Design Guidelines

General Information

  1. Design deadline is September 1, 2007.
  2. Designs should be emailed to sockmadness at gmail dot com with “Design” as the subject.
  3. Patterns can be titled as you please.  Be creative!  We’d love to see inspired and innovative sock patterns. Just be original!
  4. Designers should be prepared to have their designs freely distributed to the participants Sockmadness.  We do send out the patterns with stern admonitions concerning copyright and, to the best of our knowledge, this has been respected.

Design Requirements

All submissions must contain the following information:

  1. Name of designer
  2. Email address of designer
  3. Blog address of the designer if they have one.
  4. Statement of Originality—in the body of your email please state that this is your own original design that has never been published before on a blog, website or any other publication. – All patterns must be your own work.  Use of stitch patterns from a treasury such as Barbara Walker’s or Harmony is fine but a re-working of a published pattern is not.  Remember, we are looking for interesting construction, novelty and awe inspiring design.  Originality is very important.

    3. Gauge per inch
    4. Yarn type required - MUST be fingering or sport weight.
  6. Patterns must be submitted in MS Word format and if you can send it in PDF as well that would be appreciated. Please do not embed pictures in the word document (in pdf’s it’s fine) .
  7. Patterns must be accompanied by a picture of the completed sock.
  8. Abbreviations at the beginning of a sentence should be capitalized
  9. Spell out symbols, ie “inches” do not use the inch symbol
  10. For multiple instructions, indicate as follows: 1[2, 3 4]

Selection Guidelines

We will work the patterns as submitted and select the 7 patterns that we feel will best serve the competition. Patterns that are easy to follow and provide clear instructions will be given higher priority. If during our working of the pattern, we find an error, we will contact you for clarification.

Final patterns will be selected by March 1, 2009.
