Rules
These are the rules. Feel free to comment on them or make suggestions.
- At the start of each round a pattern will be released to all of the competitors – even those who have already been eliminated from the tournament.
- Each competitor will begin knitting and post about their progress. The spectators need updates so that they can cheer you on. At least one post prior to completion should include photos.
- All competitors must adhere to the patterns as written. You must use the same number of repeats in the leg, same heel, same width of ribbing, etc.
- The only permissable adjustments are for gauge or knitting style. You may use dpn’s or circ’s in whatever size you need to get gauge. Convert it to magic loop or 2 circ’s if you’d like. Just stick with the pattern otherwise!
- Socks need to be knit for an average adult woman’s foot. We define average as size 7-9. We recognize that not everyone will fit into this category. If your foot is larger than average you may choose to knit to your foot size. However, if your foot is smaller than average, we ask you to please still knit for an average size foot. Unfortunately, since the time it takes to finish a sock is directly related to how big the sock is, this is the only way we can keep the playing field level. Think of it as an opportunity to get ahead start on your gift knitting
- You may not share these patterns with anyone outside the competition. We can’t stress this enough and, in fact, you will be required to acknowledge your agreement to respect the design copyrights in the sign up. Without the designers we would have no competition so this is of the utmost importance.
- A flickr group has been established and participants will be required to join. This is where you will post your finished pairs of socks. Posting all of the completed socks in one spot will make our lives much easier.
- The flickr group (and Ravelry) will also serve as a forum for discussion of the patterns and completed socks. Please be aware that not all of the players are on Ravelry so watch flickr for discussion too.
- As soon as you are finished, you must do the following:
- Post a picture of the socks on adult feet to the flickr group. In the description please note the yarn and needles used for the socks.
- Email us at sockmadness at gmail dot com with “Finished” in the subject line and a link to the picture in the body. If your not familiar with flickr then watch this site for quick instructions on this. It’s really easy.
- We will update the divisions to reflect the winners of each round as the “finished” emails are received after visually verifying completion. The divisions will be updated at least once each day.
- The winner will be determined based on whose email gets to us first.
- In the event that neither competitor in a match finishes within 2 weeks, we (your cohosts) will assess the progress and determine the winner of the match.
As they always say – the decision of the judges is final.
