Supply List
We are still doing some test knitting and therefore still not entirely certain about the supply list for SM3. However, some of you are anxious to shop so I can give you a sneak peek on the yarns that have been used in both the patterns themselves and the test knitting.
Here’s what we’ve used so far:
Pattern uses: 2 skeins of One Sheep Hill Superwash Merino, 209 yds each
Test knit with: Yarntini semi-solid sock yarn
Pattern uses: Hazel Knits Artisan Sock
Test knit with: Koigu KPPPM
Pattern uses: 1 skein Malabrigo Sock Yarn in a variegated color and 1 skein Louet Gems sock yarn in a solid color
Test knit with: Chewy Sphaghetti fingering merino self-striping and Cherry tree hill supersock solid
Pattern uses: 2 skeins of Louet Gems (185 yards) 2 contrasting solids, or a solid and 1 almost solid.
Test knit with: Louet Gems
Pattern uses: 340 yards variegated sock yarn
Test knit with: Pagewood Farms Alyeska
Pattern uses: 2 skeins Claudia’s hand paint
Test knit with: 2 skeins Apple Laine sock yarn
Pattern uses: 1 skein self-striping fingering weight yarn 400 yards/86 grams, model used Kilauea superwash %100 merino from Rock Creek Yarns and 2 skeins solid fingering weight yarn 185 yards/50 grams, model used Louet Gems
Test knit with: 1 skeins Vesper sock yarn and 2 skeins Louet Gems
Pattern uses: 100 grams fingering-weight sock yarn, model used Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock
Test knit with: Plymouth Happy Feet
Again, this is not a definitive supply list but it does give you some ideas of what we might be using. As you can see, there isn’t anything unusual this year. In fact, I’m willing to bet that most of you already have enough sock yarn to compete without even buying any new yarn!

Let’s Talk SM3
It feels so weird to be logging in to post here again after such an incredibly long time. Over the next week there will be a series of posts here to lay out the details for SM3 and give you all a peek at things to come.
Let’s start with some dates. Sign ups for SME will start on Sunday, March 1st and end on Friday March 6th or possibly sooner if it starts to get too full. The first pattern will be released on Thursday, March 19th. Our target number for players is about 200 so you’ll want to sign up as close to March first as possible.
As in the past we ask that you just send an email to sockmadness@gmail.com and put “SM3 Sign Up” in the subject line. In the body of the email please include the email address you would like us to use for contacting you, a statement that you agree to respect the copyright of the patterns, and also the name/nickname or whatever you want us to call you throughout the competition. If you want that to be your email address, that’s okay, you just need to let us know.
Just to be clear, you don’t need to have a blog but you do need to have a flickr account for posting photos of your finished socks once the competition starts. Since most players are on Ravelry it’s advisable to have a Ravelry account too. There is a lively discussion in the Sock Madness Forever group there and it’s the best place to go for encouragement or advice during the tournament.
Please note – we will not respond to sign up emails. We will just compile them into groups of players. Don’t send follow ups to your sign up email until after the groups are posted. We will not respond. If you don’t see your name once the groups are posted then you can send a follow up email and we can make corrections.
Simple, right? Just send us an email. Comments on this post will not be recognized as signing up. Just send us an email.
