Third Round Pattern Specs

There has been a huge amount of speculation as to what the next pattern will be – cables, lace, fair isle. From where we sit, Felicia and I, I’ve got to admit that it’s all hugely amusing. Perhaps because we all come to knitting from different backgrounds, the techniques that some are looking forward to are the ones that other knitters dread. What some find simple – others find extremely challenging. Without giving anything away, it’s safe to say that, at some point, we’ll each be faced with a sock detail that gives us pause.
The next pair of socks requires 2 skeins (260 metres (280-ish yards)/skein) of yarn. This probably sounds like a lot of yarn so here’s a little clarification. The designer used Painted Yarns (by the late Virginia van Santen) and she actually used 2 hanks of this yarn with plenty left over. The sock was designed with a varigated yarn in mind but a solid would probably work just as well.
The needles will be 1.5 (2.5 mm) and the gauge is 7 stitches/inch.
There they are, the specs for the next sock. We’ll send the rest of the details to you this coming Wednesday between 7 am and 12 noon (our time). We’ve pondered the release date for the next round quite a lot and we really hope that this little game doesn’t screw up anyone’s holiday plans. We would never want to inferfere with religious observance. With that in mind, we have been watching the discussion to get a sense of how people felt about this and it seems as if most of you want to keep the competition moving along – so we will be happy to oblige.

Yo, guys, thanks for breaking the tension! Think you’ve done an excellent job of pleasing all of the people all of the time – not an easy task!
Can’t wait for the pattern, already mulling over the yarns…

Hey, that’s my birthday! I was looking for a good excuse to take the day off.
Oooh, interesting shake-up in the pairings, too. Way to keep us on our (sock-clad) toes.

I’m working Tuesday to Thursday and was seriously thinking about taking a day off, when I read this….but the beginning of the month is always the busiest time in our office and it wouldn’t be fair towards my colleagues….so I will be in serious trouble and can just hope, that my opponent (hi Carrie) has some problems to find free time, too. Anyway this contest is great fun and I won’t mind dropping out in Round3 at all.

I giggled a little with the speculation and wondered how it looked from your end. I can’t wait to see the pattern, maybe I’ll be finished with my first Madtini sock by then.

I have also been quite bemused to think what this must look like from Hillary and Felicia’s point of view. My life has been a slow train wreck since I signed on, so watching from the sidelines, but it is such great fun. Two of my friends I conscripted are still in, so will have fun cheering them on, as well as everyone else. How can we wait until Wednesday? By the way, I think you have been a huge boon to the purveyors of various sock yarns since everyone is stocking up.

I actually have Wednesday evening free this week – but that’s not going to be enough, because I do have to get some actual sleep so I’m functional at work on Thursday, and then I’m not free Thursday at all until after midnight… so I’ll be hopefully finishing on Friday before I head up to Maine, but if I’m not done before I leave I probably won’t be able to finish at all over the weekend… boy, this one’s going to be tough to fit into my “non-knitting life” that I try to pretend still exists!

i am really excited about the next round….my “opponent” doesn’t seem to have a link to contact here with …so i will just say: “hi there! this will be fun!”
by any chance can we know if the next pattern is written for dpns or circulars or magic loop…or any other kind of needle technique? lol

I hope the pattern comes earlier than later. My place of work is communistic, we can not access web mail, blogs or any type of chat room site or communication to the outside world. Actually I am not sure why we even have internet at work. Please send the pattern really early or super late… please think of the west coasters.

Well come to that, think of us (me?) alone out here on a misty little green island on the edge of Europe (and a few more in the UK). If the pattern comes early, we’ll get it around lunchtime; if late, it’ll have to be a Thursday morning pick up .
It’s all part of the game. You might lose on the roundabouts but you’ll gain a bit on the swings. Let the game commence!

This is so much fun ! I love hearing about everyone around the world. I live in Indiana (Midwest) and have most the day to knit. I have two adult kids who still live at home and one in high school. I still have to car pool her (3 more months till she gets her drivers license), but luckily my husband is in town, so he will pick her up after tennis practice on Wednesday. I am ready to knit knit knit !!
