Patterns From Around the World!

Hey there!  Remember us?  Sorry we’ve been a little quiet lately but I fell last week and injured  both feet badly.  I’ve been trying to catch up since then but it’s all good now.

Anyway, last week at this time we were anxiously awaiting the first pattern submission deadline.  We were so nervous to see what we’d get.  The wonderful designers out there did not disappoint!

We received some really great designs from around the world – literally.  Designers in the US, Canada and as far away as South Korea submitted patterns – some of them more than one.  How cool is that?  And the designs are great and cover a wide range of skills.  They are all very different from each other which will provide some welcome variety.  We are sure that you don’t want to be knitting the same sock over and over in each round.  Where’s the challenge in that?   

We really appreciate all of the designers because a competition like would be nothing without the designs.   In a perfect world (where we posessed a much more robust budget) we’d be able to thank each of our designers properly – with yarn.  This is not a perfect world so there can be only one winner of the early submission prize and, we’re happy to say, it’s Kristi! 

I just took a quick look at the ticker on the “About” page of this site and I noted with a shock that there are only 2 months, 2 weeks and 5 days to the tentative date that competition will begin.  OMG!  Since we are getting very close to the start of things you can be sure that after the new year the postings on this site will pick up a lot.  We intend to post information on the materials required for the socks, perhaps clues as to some of the techniques you may want to brush up on and, with any luck, more loot and places to obtain sock yarn.  Naturally we’ll also let you know the sign up details – that’s all you really want to know anyway.

To all those fabulous designers out there, this is a reminder that all patterns recieved by midnight tomorrow will be eligible to win yarn dyed just for them by Scout.  We have received 3 patterns from 2 designers so far and we can’t wait to see the rest. 

The First Pattern Submission

Wow – December already!  When I first started to think about Sock Madness it seemed like I had all the time in the world to ponder the details and get stuff put together.  Not so much!  Over the weekend the first sock pattern, a pair of related patterns actually, was submitted for our consideration.  How exciting is that?  It’s kind of a jolt because now there is stuff happening.  For real!  We’ll need to start test knitting and considering. 

The best part is that this is only the beginning.  There are many designers who have committed to submitting patterns and some of them sound absolutely fabulous.  A few people are submitting multiple patterns.  I am psyched!   

For those of you who are designing, the next date of note is December 15^th.  We will choose one designer of a pattern submitted by that date and reward them with a gift of yarn dyed just for them by Scout.  While this is very cool for you it’s a simple act of self preservation for us – with so many great patterns coming in, we’ll need time to test knit and consider them. The sooner we get them the better!
